Inclusion

Championing women, gender, indigenous peoples and youth.

Meaningful inclusion is fundamental to achieving an effective global response to the climate crisis.

Women, youth, Indigenous Peoples, civil society, people with disabilities, and the most vulnerable communities hold the solutions, expertise, and lived experience necessary to address the climate crisis and the other interrelated challenges, from poverty eradication and food security, to social and racial justice, and gender equality.

Yet they continue to face barriers to meaningful participation and decision-making. Empowering these actors and helping to address these barriers is core to the mission of the High-Level Champions, who work to ensure that climate action is inclusive, equitable, and responsive to those most affected.

The High-Level Champions are committed to embedding inclusion across all activities.

The High-Level Champions are: facilitating consultations, partnerships, and participation opportunities for youth, civil society, and Indigenous Peoples across workstreams and campaigns;

Advocating for direct access to finance and resources for historically underrepresented groups;

Promoting a multi-stakeholder approach that ensures all actors – national governments, subnational authorities, businesses, and finance institutions – support inclusion in tangible ways.

Climate Champions

Women & Gender

Women and girls are disproportionately impacted by climate change but are also leading the way in climate solutions. Evidence shows that gender-inclusive climate action is more effective:

  • Companies with more female board directors are 21% more likely to set emission reduction targets (World Economic Forum).

  • Investing in gender equality could reduce global greenhouse gas emissions by up to 15% by 2050 (UNEP, World Bank).

  • Increased women’s representation in national parliaments leads to stronger climate policies and lower emissions (IPU).

Take Action:

  • Businesses & financial institutions can accelerate progress by investing in women-led enterprises and ensuring gender-disaggregated climate finance data to inform equitable resource allocation.

  • Civil society & philanthropy have a critical role to play in expanding funding for grassroots women’s organizations driving climate solutions.

  • Governments can must integrate gender-responsive policies and increase financing for women-led climate initiatives.

Climate Champions

Indigenous Peoples

Indigenous Peoples are custodians of 25% of the world's land areas. Yet, finance often fails to reach the Indigenous Peoples who are leading climate action, across mitigation, adaptation and resilience.

Take Action

  • Leading Businesses & investors ensure Indigenous rights are upheld in supply chains and integrate Indigenous-led solutions into sustainability strategies.

  • Civil society & philanthropy have a critical role to play to help shift funding models empower Indigenous Peoples to drive decision-making over climate finance allocations.

  • Governments & climate funds can accelerate progress with more direct access to finance for Indigenous-led organizations and ensuring Indigenous land tenure rights are respected.

Climate Champions

Youth

Youth have played a pivotal role in shifting climate ambition. Their engagement in climate governance has led to historic recognition of youth as key stakeholders in COP decision texts.

Take Action

  • Businesses & investors can lead the way by providing funding and career pathways for young climate leaders and entrepreneurs.

  • International institutions & NGOs can help scale up youth engagement platforms and ensure intergenerational knowledge-sharing.

  • Governments can formally integrate youth representation in climate policymaking at all levels.

The Climate Champions Team supports youth engagement through initiatives like the Climate Champions Youth Fellowship, embedding young professionals in key climate workstreams. Through partnerships with YOUNGO and other youth networks, we are ensuring that youth-led solutions receive the visibility, resources, and influence they deserve.
